Project Overview

Energy Machines ApS has partnered with Home.Earth to provide a turnkey energy solution for their flagship property, Nærheden, in Hedehusene, Denmark. A fully electric integrated energy system will provide Nærheden with 100% renewable heating and cooling derived from the ground, sun, and waste heat generated inside the building. Nærheden, featuring 158 homes and 1,500m² of commercial space, aims to maintain an LCA footprint below 6 kg CO2/m²/year, half the requirement set by Danish Building Regulations. The property is on track to achieve DGNB Gold and Planet certifications.

The 12,500m² residential and commercial property will rely entirely on a fully electric integrated energy system for heating and cooling. Geothermal energy and waste heat will be stored in concrete foundation piles, known as energy piles, produced by Centrum Pæle A/S. These energy piles will serve as the primary heat source in winter and cooling medium in summer, regulated by Energy Machines™ heat pumps.

Sustainable Features
  • Energy Storage: Surplus heat is stored in the energy piles for later use.
  • PVT Solar Cells: Rooftop PVT solar cells provide additional thermal energy and renewable electricity to power the heat pumps.
  • Low Emissions: The system will operate with nearly zero CO2 emissions, meeting 100% of the property's heating (900 MWh) and cooling (200 MWh) needs without connecting to district energy providers.
